Customized Markup

For your site, we have added customized markup commands to make editing your site even easier. Most examples include the actual text typed when editing the page along with an example of how it will look when the page is viewed. On to the customized markup:

The '!' tag

The ! tag allows you to easily create a left-aligned black 24px Sans-serif sequence of text. Example:

! This is a title example

The '!!' tag

The !! tag allows you to easily create a blue 18px Sans-serif sequence of text. Example:

The '~~' sequence

We have added another means to cause a line break in your documents using a two period ('~~') sequence. Example:

Creating a Link

To create a link to a new page within your site, simply put 2 braces around the word(s) that you would like the link to be named. For example, if the page may be called "New Page", simply write

New Page.

After saving the information, on the page you will see NewPage with a question mark next to it. The question mark is the link into the new page. Click on it and you will see the edit box for the page entitled "New Page".

After you create the new page and save your information, refresh the browser (by pressing F5 or the refresh button on the toolbar), and the question mark will have disappeared. You will see link for your new page in the appropriate color.

Adding Images or Documents

When you would like to add a new picture or a document to a page, the first thing you must do is upload the picture or document. Go to the uploads page by clicking on the hidden "Uploads" link located at the bottom of the page.

1. Click browse. A window should open: look for the image or document location in your computer.

2. Highlight the correct file and click "open".

3. Click the "Upload" button. If upload works, then on the top of the page it will say "fileename.jpg" successfully uploaded.

  • The last three letters of the file name above denotes the file type. They can be a .jpg, .gif, .doc, .pdf, etcetera.

4. On your site, go to the editing page where you would like to add the image or document (i.e. Documentation - Edit Page).

5. Find the place in the edit box where the picture or link should be added and type the word Attach:filename.jpg

  • the file name must be typed exactly as it is shown as an attachment in the uploads page.
  • For further information on links or editing, refer to the beige box below the save button.

Creating links to outside websites, images, documents, sound files

To create a link to another site, document, image or sound file - follow the steps below.

If you would like to link to another site, there are 2 ways:

  1. Copy and Paste the website address where you would like it to appear. The reader will see the actual address and they can click on it to go to another site.
  2. The second way is for the reader to see words on your page like, "click here" for the link, rather than the site address.
    1. Type click here - The first part is the desired website and the second part withing the brackets are the words that the reader will see.
    2. The reader will see click here, and when they click on it, it will go to the desired site.

To create a link to a document, image or sound file, you must first upload the file to your site following the upload steps outlined above under Adding Images or Documents.

  1. Go to the edit page where you would like to add the link.
  2. Type Word Document Name for the reader to see "Word Document Name" as a link on your site.
    1. The same applies for imagename.jpg or soundfile.wmv.
  • To have links open up in new windows (this should only be done for links outside of your website), type: %newwin% in front of the link.
    • There must be no spaces in between the second "%" and the "[[" of the link for the command to function properly.
